# Solutions

## Introduction to Solutions

{% hint style="success" %}
This article introduces the concept or solutions and explains their role in Timebook's ecosystem.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Solutions are a component of the Delivery module which is not available in the low-tier plans. If you don't see the Solutions tab in the navigator, please contact your workplace owner to adjust the plan.
{% endhint %}

Solutions bridge the gap between opportunities and work delegation by providing product managers with evidence which facilitates decision making.

In Timebook, solutions are the result of the product discovery process:

* first, you collect [insights](/hc/get-started/discovery/insights.md) from customer data
* then you create [opportunities](/hc/get-started/discovery/opportunities.md) from selected insights, i.e. potential areas of development
* once you decide which opportunity to pursue, you can generate a solution: ideas and suggestions which can be broken down into actual work
* the last step is sending the solution to the selected delivery tool, such as [Linear](/hc/integrations/linear.md) or [Jira](/hc/integrations/jira.md)

## Creating solutions

Solutions can be created in two ways: manually or directly from the opportunity using Timebook's AI.

{% hint style="success" %}
To fully utilize capabilities of Timebook, we suggest using AI generation from the opportunity card.
{% endhint %}

### Creating manually

To create a solution manually:

* click the global `+` button from the sidebar navigator
* use the add button from the Solutions view
* or click the button on the opportunity card

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Navigator" %}

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/QQ5F6y6VRAZ9c4fDz29l" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Adding from sidebar navigator</p></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Solutions view" %}

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Opportunity view" %}

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/KaCqUJcqubrQOpev77m0" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Adding from opportunity view</p></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

### Generating with Timebook AI

Once you have know which opportunity to escalate, you can use Timebook to analyze the data and propose a solution that will help you delegate the tasks for your team.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go to the selected opportunity and change its status to different than 'Draft'.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
A dedicated button will appear in the solutions placeholder. Click to generate the solution with Timebook's AI.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/eLs0vYhGyZMcEiB8QsrM" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Generating solution with AI</p></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Timebook will generate 3 proposals of solutions to the problem stated in the opportunity. The next them is reviewing them and deciding which one to pursue.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/JUsmQwE0cg9diXtqGoaT" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Generated solutions on opportunity view</p></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Solution overiew

Each solution contains of several fully customizable sections.

### Section 1: RICE score

The RICE score lets you set **Reach**, **Impact**, **Confidence**, and **Effort**. These parameters help estimate the feasibility of the solution according to the following formula:

$$
\left( \frac{\text{Reach} \times \text{Impact} \times \text{Confidence}}{\text{Effort}} \right)\times 2
$$

<div align="center"><figure><img src="/files/Dr3xFHmqpfvtRnBJeJaQ" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>RICE scoring system</p></figcaption></figure></div>

The table below explains how RICE estimation works:

| **Reach** | Few (1), Some (2), Many (3), Most (4), All (5) | How large a share of your users will this affect in the next quarter? |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Impact** | Minimal (0.25), Low (0.5), Medium (1), High (3), Massive (5) | When someone encounters this, how much does it change their experience or move your goal? Medium means noticeable. High means significant. Massive means game-changing. |
| **Confidence** | Moonshot (25%), Low (50%), Medium (75%), High (100%) | How much evidence do you have? High = backed by data or strong signals. Medium = informed assumption. Low = mostly intuition. Moonshot = pure bet. |
| **Effort**     | Small (1), Medium (2), Large (3), Massive (5)                | Total work across all people and disciplines. Small = a few days. Medium = a few weeks. Large = a month or more. Massive = a quarter-sized commitment.                  |

### Section 2: Linked opportunity

The opportunity linked to the solution by the user with the summary of the problem and desired outcome.

<figure><img src="/files/hfUBvAbecdvCRLO5LgFD" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Parent opportunity of solution</p></figcaption></figure>

### Section 3: Description

Description holds the results of problem analysis. If done via the AI it holds the following sections:

* **Overview & Alignment** – a summary of the problem with information how the proposed solution can help you solve it.
* **The Hypothesis** – the source of the problem statement derived from the opportunity's host insight.
* **Scope of Work (User stories)** – ideas of solutions profiled by personas whom the problem might concern.
* **Feasibility & Complexity** – technical and business considerations contributing to the overall complexity of the solution.
* **Strategic Trade-offs** – a list of direct pros and cons towards and against the proposed solution.

<figure><img src="/files/WP7mTkJsIJ8QTP7ss0Ke" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Description with problem analysis</p></figcaption></figure>

### Section 4: Delivery

The delivery sections lets you create, manage and track work items for your team – the actual delivery phase based on the solution's details.

{% hint style="info" %}
Depending on your plan, the solution can be sent to a third-party delivery tool, or act as a container for tasks in Timebook, similar to [projects](/hc/get-started/delivery/solutions.md).
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/iHzy3rLlqawwTBptIoh8" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>Work items attached to solution</p></figcaption></figure>

### Section 5: Updates

The updates section lets you add comments and discuss the solution with your team. The latest update is displayed at the top of the solution page.

## Browsing solutions

The **Solutions** tab lets you browse and manage all solutions in your product space. Depending on your preference, you can view them as a list, a timeline chart, or a Kanban board.

Below you can see the **timeline** which provides information on current status, number of assigned work items, risk, and calendar with marked time frames derived from the work items estimation settings.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can change the layout and apply grouping and filtering in the 'Manage view tab'.
{% endhint %}

Here's an example look for solutions in timeline mode:

# Agent Instructions
This documentation is published with GitBook. GitBook is the documentation platform designed so that both humans and AI agents can read, navigate, and reason over technical content effectively. Learn more at gitbook.com.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.timebook.ai/hc/get-started/delivery/solutions.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
