# Manage tags

## Tagging objects in Timebook

The \[**Tags**] section in the \[**Workplace settings**] module allows you to track and manage all tags used across your [Workplace](https://help.timebook.ai/hc/product-guide/getting-around-timebook/app-navigation/workplace-navigation). You can edit tags, check their usage count, or delete them permanently, keeping your the Workplace organized and up to date.

Tags in Timebook help you classify and organize specific objects, making them easier to locate, group, or filter. You can create tags in several contexts, including when managing [Work Items](https://help.timebook.ai/hc/product-guide/core-concepts-and-objects/delivery-objects/work-item) or [Documents](https://help.timebook.ai/hc/product-guide/documents).

We have a separate article that explains our approach to tags and the Timebook objects you can tag.

## Managing tags in your Workplace

Efficiently managing tags in Timebook ensures your Workplace remains organized and the content is easy to find and categorize. Use the **left pane** to view and search tags:

* The left pane displays a list of all tags used across your Workplace.
* Click on any tag to view its details in the main working area on the right.
* For larger Workplaces, use the search bar at the top of the list to quickly find a tag by name.

When you select a tag, its details appear in the **working area** to the right. From here, you can:

* **Rename the tag**: Click the tag’s name and type the new one.
* **Change the tag’s background color**: Select a new color from the available options to customize its appearance.
* **Check tag creator**: See who originally created the tag.
* **Review tag usage**: View the number of objects across the Workplace currently using the tag.

You can easily change the name and background color of a tag.

{% hint style="warning" %}
You can also use the \[**Trash bin**] icon to permanently delete a tag.

We will remove the deleted tag from all objects currently using it, so be cautious, especially with tags created by others.

## Creating tags for your Workplace

Creating tags in this section of Workplace settings allows you to establish a shared system of classification across your Workplace. Tags created here can be reused by anyone and attached to objects throughout the Workplace, making it easier to organize and find items.

To create a tag for your Workplace:

{% embed url="<https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cTn2lPnhvXT>" %}
Create a new tag for your Workplace and select its background color.
{% endembed %}

> 1. Click the dropdown next to your Workplace’s name in the top-left corner.
> 2. From the resulting menu, select \[**Workplace settings**] and open the \[**Tags**] section from the menu on the left.
> 3. Give your tag a meaningful name and choose its background color.
> 4. Click \[**Add tag**] to confirm and make the tag available to all Workplace members.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can also create tags directly in context while editing taggable objects. The process for creating tags in these contexts, such as managing Work Items or Documents, is nearly identical to the one explained above.

Usually, whenever you can add an existing tag, you can also create a new one just by typing a new name and selecting a background color.
