In short: Views are customizable setups that define how your data is presented, combining filters, grouping, sorting, layout style, and optional fields. You can save these views as public or private, allowing team collaboration or individual preferences. Create, update, or duplicate views to maintain flexibility in organizing and visualizing your data.
In Timebook, a view is a customizable setup that defines how your data is presented, allowing you to adjust it to your needs. You can create views in most of Timebook modules. If a module allows you to modify the presentation of data, it also allows you to edit and save customized views. A view is a combination of:
Filters: Narrow down items based on criteria like Status, Priority, or Assignee.
Grouping: Organize items by specific properties such as Project, Due date, or Item type.
Sorting: Order your items within groups for better clarity, using properties like Priority or Due date.
Layout: Choose how the data is visually presented, such as Board, Timeline, or 2D Chart.
Fields to show: Customize which columns or properties are visible in your view.
After customizing the presentation of your data, you can save it as a view for future use. One of the best features of Timebook views is the ability to set them as public or private. For instance, even when working on a set of Work items in a Team context, you can save your view privately, making it visible only to yourself. This allows everyone to use their preferred view while still having access to public views for collaboration.
We show all existing views at the top, just above the items you are working on. We automatically create the [All] view in each module. It shows all the available items without any filters applied.
We suggest you use the [All] view to get a big picture of all available items. To present filtered data, you might want to create a new view instead. But you can modify the [All] view if you wish to do so.
To create a new custom view:
Press the [+] icon in the view section at the top
Choose [Create a view] if you want your new view to be available to others. Or choose [Create a private view] if the new view should be visible only to you.
Give your new view a meaningful name and select one of the available layouts. Each layout offers a different presentation of the data you are working on. For more information, see Layouts
You can now select a method for grouping, sorting, and filtering your data. For more information, see Managing data
Press [Save] to confirm. Your new view is now available in the top left corner.
Once you create a custom view, you can modify it anytime.
To modify a view:
Click the [Manage view] button in the top-right corner and do any of the following:
Select a different layout.
Change the grouping method.
Show or hide item fields (in the Table layout only).
Change the filter settings.
Rename the view.
Click the [Update view] to overwrite the previous view with the new one.
