In short: Roadmaps let you visualize and organize your work with ease. Project Roadmaps help track and compare Work Items across selected Projects, while Now/Next/Later Roadmaps focus on prioritizing objects by timeframes. Each Roadmap has a drawer that allows you to assign an owner, set timeframes, and configure what data to include, facilitating collaboration and planning.

What are Roadmaps?

In Timebook, Roadmaps are essential tools for visualizing and organizing your work. The dedicated module allows you to create and manage Roadmaps that provide a clear overview of your project work and priorities. With flexible visualization options, Roadmaps help you present information in the most effective way—whether it’s a high-level strategic view or a detailed breakdown of tasks.

Timebook offers two types of Roadmaps:

  • Project Roadmaps allow you to track and compare multiple , giving you insights into progress, dependencies, and timelines.

  • The Now/Next/Later Roadmap helps you prioritize various object types—such as , , , —by organizing them into short- and long-term timeframes.

Each Roadmap type is designed to improve collaboration, highlight dependencies, and streamline planning.

Available Roadmap types

Timebook offers the following types of Roadmaps, each designed to serve a specific purpose and enhance your ability to plan, track, and prioritize work:

How to use it

Project

This makes Project Roadmaps ideal for managing complex cross-functional efforts or keeping teams aligned.

Now/Next/Later

Additionally, you can drag-and-drop items between columns for dynamic planning, automatically updating their associated date ranges.

Use Now/Next/Later Roadmaps as a powerful tool for agile planning and real-time prioritization.

Managing Roadmaps in the dedicated module

As a CEO, you can use Roadmaps for a strategic overview of the company’s direction, helping you understand how different Projects contribute to the overall business objectives. Roadmaps will help you assess progress and compare timelines.

As a Project Manager, you can use Roadmaps for a detailed breakdown of all the Work Items involved in your Projects, making it easier to coordinate tasks, manage timelines, and track dependencies.

For a more visual way to compare and track Projects in a Roadmap, try the [Timeline] layout.

This layout presents your selected Projects as chronological lines, making it easy to view progress and milestones over a specified time period.

Creating a Roadmap

To create a Roadmap:

  1. Click [Add a Roadmap] in the top-right corner of the module.

  2. Give your new Roadmap a meaningful name and description. Depending on the type of Roadmap, you can also:

    • For Project Roadmaps: Assign an owner, set the date range, and select the Projects to include.

    • For Now/Next/Later Roadmaps: Choose the object types to display and define the timeframes for organizing them.

  3. Click [Create...] to save your changes.

  4. The new Roadmap’s card opens and you can edit its details and access other available options.

After you create a Project Roadmap, it will display all Work Items from the Projects you selected for the Roadmap.

Roadmap cards

Each Roadmap card in Timebook has two areas of focus:

  • The main area displays the Timebook data configured for your Roadmap. In a Project Roadmap, you’ll see a list of all Work Items belonging to the selected Projects, grouped by each one for clarity. In a Now/Next/Later Roadmap, the main area features three columns corresponding to the defined timeframes, populated with the object type chosen during setup.

In the top-right corner of the card, you have two additional options to keep your Roadmap accessible:

  • [Add to Bookmarks] saves the Roadmap for future reference. You can find it by opening the [Bookmarks] module in the Navigator.

  • [Pin to Navigator] adds the Roadmap to the [Pinned items] area of the Navigator. You can quickly jump to the pinned Roadmap using the menu on the left, no matter where you are in Timebook.

We have a dedicated article on how to use pins and bookmarks to keep your important objects always within easy reach.

Roadmap cards: Drawer

The main area of a Roadmap helps you manage and organize data, while the drawer allows you to define its properties and key settings. You can open the drawer using the button in the top-right corner of the Roadmap card and collapse it again when you want to focus more on the main view.

The following options are available in the drawer:

  • For Project Roadmaps: The drawer includes options to assign the Roadmap’s owner, set a date range, and define which Projects to include. Use the [Projects] property to select from all available Projects in your Timebook Workplace. You can include or exclude specific Projects using the provided checkboxes. The [Date range] property ensures that only Work Items scheduled within this period are displayed.

  • For Now/Next/Later Roadmaps: The drawer allows you to assign an owner and define the timeframes for organizing your data into columns.
